Kids First Community Health

The Kidz First Community Health team is a highly skilled and professional multi-disciplinary team that work together to provide a wide variety of services to children and their families/whaanau in the Counties Manukau area, including:

  • Home Care Nursing - a specialist paediatric nursing team who, assisted by paediatric dieticians, deliver nursing and dietary services for babies and children who are medically fragile, have a chronic illness or disability, or require acute short term post-discharge follow up.
  • Child Development - provides therapy and social work to enable children with special needs and their families/whaanau to achieve full potential in their daily lives. The multi-disciplinary team provides occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech language therapy, social work services and visiting neuro-development therapy.
  • Public Health Nursing - advocates for children, young people and their families by working alongside families/whaanau, school staff, allied health professionals and social agencies to ensure positive health outcomes. The work includes immunisation programmes, following up hearing and vision concerns, school health referrals and supporting health promoting schools.
  • Vision and Hearing Testing - this Well Child screening programme includes glue ear testing for pre school children, hearing and vision testing for new entrants, vision testing for intermediate school children and hearing testing in the Public Health Nurse Community Clinics.
  • Community Paediatricians - Specialist Paediatricians based in the Community providing care to children with Disability, Palliative care needs, are technology dependant or Medically Fragile. The team works closely with the Inpatient service, Multi-disciplinary teams and other Community Services. In addition to patient care the team has a Population Child Focus with involvement in Needs Assessment, Development of Community Child Health Projects, working closely with the Counties Manukau DHB.
  • Centre for Youth Health - provides specialist youth health clinical services to Counties Manukau along with education and training opportunities, information services and adolescent health research.
     
  • Outpatient Care - Outpatient Clinics are available in all paediatric sub speciality areas.
