Surgical Services - Burns Service
OUR VISION
The South Auckland Burns Service is a multi-disciplinary based service that is a centre of excellence and leadership in burns care regionally, nationally and internationally.
We will pursue this vision by:
- Providing a comprehensive, seamless, service integrating all phases of treatment including acute, rehabilitation, reconstructive and outpatient follow-up, utilising a multi-disciplinary team approach.
- Designing a burn centre with facilities that are operationally flexible and maximises the use of resources.
- The predominant emphasis of these facilities will be the care of patients requiring burn intervention.

OUR GOALS
- To utilise resources to achieve maximum efficiency with capacities that accommodate flexibility and future proofing for increasing acute volumes.
- A focus on provision of acute care, utilising planning processes to facilitate early discharges.
- Enhance "Hospital in the Home" concept to include provision of burn care by skilled practitioners to facilitate early discharge.
- Integrating burn care into a comprehensive seamless service for all phases of care including the acute, rehabilitation, reconstruction and outpatient segments.
- Retention of skilled staff with expertise in Plastic Surgery and Burn Care.
- We will maintain a teaching focus that supports a centre of excellence vision and provide training opportunities to develop and retain staff.
- To achieve regional / national / international recognition in the scope and standard of work undertaken.
