How
many pieces of evidence are expected after 1 year of
employment? |
You are expected to submit a full portfolio, with
one
(i.e. exemplar, care plan, teaching session, etc) piece of
evidence demonstrating the maintenance of level of practice
as the primary piece of evidence, coupled with secondary
pieces of evidence, (eg: the Annual Practicing Certificate
(APC), professional development hours and the NCNZ competencies form).
If you have never submitted a portfolio or come from an
external DHB/organisation where there was not NCNZ
accreditation of PDRP, you may submit one
piece of evidence by the end of the year either from the
year.
If you have transferred to your new area of employment from
within CMDHB to a significantly different area (i.e. Kidz
First to Theatre) then to maintain your level of practice
you will need to submit a full portfolio demonstrating your
level of practice but with one piece of
written evidence. If it is a similar area of practice, you
will transfer with your current portfolio.
If you have transferred from a PDRP accredited programme
from NCNZ to your new area of employment from outside of
CMDHB to a significantly different area (i.e. Surgical to
Theatre) then to maintain your level of practice you will
need to submit a full portfolio in a year with one
piece of evidence demonstrating your level of practice.
If you have not transferred from an accredited programme,
you will need to submit a full portfolio in a years time.
If you have never submitted a portfolio before you will need
to submit a full portfolio in a year’s time.

What
is the process if my portfolio is overdue?
|
You
may be audited by NCNZ. A quarterly report is submitted to
NCNZ showing all the names of nurses who have a current
portfolio and showing compliance.
“The
Council has an expectation that all nurses will keep
evidence of their continuing competence. Up to 5% of
individual practitioners will be randomly selected for the
recertification programme (audit) each year. Nurses on
approved professional development and recognition programmes
will be excluded from the audit.” NCNZ website:
http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/contcomp.html#Audit
If you are overdue, but
intend to submit it soon, please speak with both you CNM and
NE to let them know of the date you intend to submit.
 |
What does it mean employment wise if my portfolio is
overdue? |
There is a contractual obligation to have a current
portfolio. CMDHB does have a policy to manage non-compliance
of the PDRP programme. This is outlined on page 16 of the
PDRP Operations Manual
 |
Can
Nursing Council ask me to submit my portfolio for audit if I
am compliant (or non-compliant)?
|
Yes, if you are non-compliant they can. If you are
compliant in a recognises PDRP Programme (CMDHB PDRP
Programme is a recognised accredited NCNZ programme) you may
still receive an letter to be audited, but if this should
happen, you will need to contact
Dee Gordon (PDRP
Coordinator)
who
will submit a letter to NCNZ stating you are compliant.
 |
In
terms of PDRP, what does the "due date" mean? |
“Due date” is the date that you are due to submit your
annual/full portfolio (depending on what you need to submit).
 |
How
long can I expect to wait for my portfolio to be assessed? |
This will depend on the backlog of portfolios being
assessed by your area assessor (usually the NE). The
assessor has 8 weeks to assess your portfolio.
 |
Can I
choose which assessor will assess my portfolio? |
If
there is a conflict of interest with the assessor, you may
request that the portfolio be assessed by another assessor.
 |
Does
the Annual Update Day (AUD) count in my education hours? |
Yes
 |
Can I
submit my assignment from university as evidence? |
Yes
- the assignment must be accompanied by reflection from you
about the paper, why you are undertaking the course, what
you are learning and how this applies to your practice
setting.
 |
Can
I submit the assignment I wrote for university if it is
older than 3 years? |
No,
PDRP programmes are based on the previous 3 years from the
date you are writing your evidence. This does not mean that
the papers you wrote 10 years ago are not applicable to your
practice; those papers have provided a basis or platform to
your current practice today. The PDRP programme however
focuses on the last three years.
 |
Why do
I have to submit my CV? |
A
CV will often demonstrate a clear progression of practice
within it, and the assessor has the opportunity to see this
progression demonstrated within your CV.
A CV can be considered a "secondary" source of evidence if
it clearly outlines your progression.
 |
Is it
compulsory to submit evidence yearly? |
At
CMDHB the PDRP programme is yearly (annual).
 |
Can I
submit 3 exemplars as evidence?
|
Yes, keeping in mind that all the exemplars must demonstrate
the level of practice you have applied for.
Click on the links to see the Level of
practice for
RN's &
EN/NA's.
You
need to be familiar with what the requirements are for each
level. The exemplars must demonstrate clinical practice, but
if you are submitting a proficient portfolio for example you
will also need to demonstrate leadership, acting as a role
model and advocate and perhaps quality initiatives and
changes in the practice setting within these three
exemplars. Proficient and expert levels are more than simply
demonstrating complex knowledge in a practice setting; they
are also about leadership, involvement practice changes,
responsibility for colleagues learning, influencing at a
service/organisational level, etc. Some of these other
qualities must be demonstrated within your exemplars.

Is there an extension period for nurses who take Maternity
Leave? |
If the due date arises when the nurse is away on maternity
leave, then the employee is required to submit a portfolio
within 6 months of their return to work.
