Health Services We Fund

Public Health

Public Health services aim to improve the health of populations and to diminish inequalities in population health status.  They are services directed at entire populations or groups of people, not to individuals.  Here you will find information about how Counties Manukau District Health Board (CMDHB) funds those services.

Public Health services are purchased for the CMDHB population by the Ministry of Health public health northern locality office (phone 09-589 9000).  CMDHB has the opportunity to provide advice to the Ministry on service priorities.  The main provider of Public Health services for Counties Manukau is the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) (Link: http://www.arphs.govt.nz) part of ADHB (Link: http://www.adhb.govt.nz).  For communicable disease or food safety issues contact ARPHS on 09-623 4600.  Other non-governmental agencies used for public health services are listed here.

CMDHB has also made a considerable commitment to develop a whole society response to the epidemic of diabetes we face.  Let's Beat Diabetes is a five year, district-wide plan aimed at long-term sustainable changes to prevent and/or delay the onset of Type 2 Diabetes and improve outcomes for people who already have the condition.  Information can be found on the Let's Beat Diabetes website.

Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) also provide health promotion services to CMDHB’s population.  Each PHO develops a health promotion plan which is agreed to by CMDHB and the Ministry of Health.  For more information see the Primary Health Care.
