Clinical Support - Pharmacy
The Pharmacy Service at CMDHB is a leader within NZ for the provision of Pharmacy Services for patients. We are active in identifying medication problems and in implementing systems to prevent problems developing.
Pharmacists are involved in:
- Preferred method of supply for medicines is
"Individual Patient Dispensing" (IPD) and this is used extensively for CMDHB patients.
- Clinical Pharmacy Service - to all inpatient wards, attendance on consultant ward rounds and interdisciplinary meetings, presence in surgical pre-admission clinics, and in Emergency Care.
- Medicines Information Service
- large and comprehensive service utilising latest databases, journals, and references.
- Drug Use & Evaluation
- leading service to promote established best practices for medicines.
- Formulary Management - active promotion of the CMDHB medicines formulary.
Pharmacy Technicians support the roles of the Pharmacists in medicine supply, and increasingly in ward based clinical roles.
For both Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians the salary structure and Pharmacy management supports career development and advancement.
The Pharmacy Service is extensively involved in the education of undergraduate Pharmacy students at Auckland University, and Pharmacy Technician students at Auckland University of Technology.
