Health Services We FundMaternity ServicesThe Ministry of Health vision for primary maternity services is: To give each woman, her partner, and her whanau or family, every opportunity to have a fulfilling outcome to the women's pregnancy and childbirth by facilitating the provision of primary maternity services that are safe, informed by evidence and that are based on partnership, information and choice and recognise the pregnancy and childbirth are a normal life-state for most women. Primary Maternity care is provided in Counties Manukau by a range of Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs); GPs, Midwives or Specialists, who are independent (not employed by CMDHB) and also by Midwives employed by CMDHB. CMDHB midwives work in both community and in hospital settings. Women are free to choose the type of service which is appropriate and acceptable to them. Primary Maternity providers will also facilitate the provision of appropriate additional care for woman and babies who need it. This care is often (not always) provided by the secondary and tertiary services at CMDHB's Women's Health CMDHB also contracts community providers to offer a number of primary maternity support and education services.
