Positive Ageing Expo

The mission of the Franklin Integration Project Reference Group is “to support, guide and assist in the development of an integrated health and support service for older people living in Franklin.” A tall order for a small group of volunteers and service representatives.

Early in it’s life, the group realised that there was a lack of awareness, among the older population and support groups/service organisations, of what was available within the Franklin District. Out of this realisation arose the idea to bring together as many groups, clubs, and services as possible in one place and to make that gathering as accessible as possible to the older people who may need or benefit from them.

From this was born the Franklin Positive Ageing Expo which, to judge from the annual report of the New Zealand Positive Ageing Strategy, is one of the biggest events of it's kind within New Zealand.

Expo 2009, held on Friday 2nd October, brought together 97 services, groups, clubs, and organisations with the single objective of serving older people. Over 1500 people visited and many of them have told us of the benefits they gained.

Please view the video of the day below and put Friday 1st October 2010, the International Day of the Older Person, in your diary as the day to come along and experience our Expo for yourself.

Any queries about the upcoming Expo can be emailed to Chris Stabler, the Project Co-ordinator of the Franklin Integration Project at chrisstabler@ihug.co.nz.
